COMMUNITY

Molokai Land Trust recognizes and values the priceless resources right here within our own community on Molokai. With community support, our organization only grows stronger and is better equipped to take on the important work necessary to preserve and restore the cultural and natural resources that make Molokai so unique. We feel that it is important to make opportunities available for community members, groups and schools wishing to participate in our conservation activities. Sharing information in a learning setting brings us all closer together. This helps us make more educated decisions for our environment.

Earth Day Event – MLT has had a booth at the annual Earth Day event since 2008, to help make information about our organization and work available to the general public. Please visit us again this year to learn more about the work we do and how you may get involved.

MLT offers opportunities for local residents and groups to participate in both volunteer and subsistence activities on our two preserves through our access systems. Forest gathering, la'au lapa'au, hunting and fishing activities are available on weekends and holidays for individuals and small groups. The Access Systems are available to Molokai residents. Contact us at 808.553.5626 for more information on how to sign up for a pass.

Over the last few years, interest has grown within several of our schools to develop service learning opportunities in the environment. MLT has worked with UH Maui College, Molokai, and both Molokai Middle and Kaunakakai Elementary Schools on environmental science projects at our Mokio Preserve. MLT is offering more opportunities to help involve local schools in the conservation work that we do. So, if you are an educator and would like to find out more information on how to set up a service based learning opportunity with MLT, please Contact Us to request information.

We would like to graciously thank all those community members that have volunteered, donated and generally supported the hard work we do caring for the 'aina. Mahalo to you all!
